International Refugee and Migration Health Conference ‑ Requesting student volunteers

This conference is offered by The Society of Refugee Healthcare Providers is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of refugees and immigrants. We connect professionals across disciplines, offer specialized resources, and provide a platform for collaboration, education, and advocacy to ensure equitable healthcare for vulnerable populations. They are looking for at least 10 student volunteers to help with the International Refugee and Migration Health Conference.

The International Refugee and Migration Health Conference (previously offered as the North American Refugee Health Conference or NARHC) is the largest medical conference focused on refugee health in the world. The 2024 conference welcomed 1,083 clinicians, academics, and policy-makers, from 45 US states, 7 Canadian provinces, and 19 other countries, who reported serving over 1.4 million refugees and other forcibly displaced populations.

The focus of the conference is to inform participants about the latest issues in refugee and immigrant health. The venue includes over 100 lectures, 40 workshops, and networking sessions. The conference attracts a diverse audience including physicians from all specialties, public health clinicians, allied health professionals, resettlement workers, and policy makers from leading organizations in migration health. 

The keynote speakers for the Conference include Tareq Hadhad, a former Syrian refugee who has become a successful entrepreneur in Canada; JJ Bola, the award winning author and poet, who has lived experience as a refugee from Congo and who is a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR; Kim Thuy, the celebrated Canadian author and former Vietnamese refugee; Professor Bukola Salami, Canadian Research Chair whose research focusses on the health and experiences of Black migrant youth; Dr. Joanne Liu, the past president of MSF International; and Dr. Apostolos Veizis, the Executive Director of InterSOS, a Greek humanitarian organization caring for refugees in the Mediterranean region.
