Division Head Message

A personalized and outstanding learning experience

In the Division of Clinical Dermatology and Cutaneous Science, we have a reputation for outstanding patient care and resident and student training.

Our commitment to our patients is demonstrated by the excellent clinical care we provide in general, surgical and subspecialty dermatology clinics, and in the consultative advice we offer to inpatients and emergency departments. Our position as a tertiary referral service for the Maritime provinces gives us ample opportunity to fulfill this commitment.

We expose learners at all levels to a wide variety of skin conditions and treatments through our educational programs. Also, while our research program is small, we're currently taking steps to increase the amount of clinical research underway in our division. Because our members include community- and hospital-based specialists, our residents and students see patients in a variety of settings. We’re also able to connect with hospitals and clinics in three provinces through telemedicine.

This broad exposure, combined with our commitment to education and mentorship, ensures a top-notch educational experience. Our residency training program is widely regarded as one of the best in Canada and all of our dermatology residents have passed their Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons exams. Our program has limited capacity, which allows our residents to enjoy the best individualized training in Canada.

Thank you for visiting our website and for learning more about our division and our educational programs.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kerri Purdy
Interim division head/service chief, Division of Clinical Dermatology & Cutaneous Science
