Pharmacokinetics

Improving lead compound identification

Pharmacokinetics is the study of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) by the body. Knowledge of a drug’s pharmacokinetics is required for:

  • identifying appropriate routes of drug administration
  • dosing regimen design
  • predicting and understanding interindividual variability in drug exposure and therapeutic responses

Research in our department is focused on identifying the mechanisms that lead to variability in drug ADME with the goals of improving lead compound identification in drug development and therapeutic drug use in humans.
