Preparing for success

Director: Dr. Alexandra Manning

Psychiatry is a rewarding career choice, providing the opportunity to substantially improve patient’s lives through treatment of mental illness.  Medical students are often surprised by the complexity of the discipline, fascinated by the ongoing research into the science of mental illness, and extremely satisfied by the opportunity to treat “the whole person.” If you are interested in a career in psychiatry, the Dalhousie residency program offers a wonderful opportunity to train in a collegial and supportive environment.

The Dalhousie Psychiatry Residency Training Program provides excellent clinical training in general psychiatry, preparing our graduates for the role of a sophisticated general psychiatrist. Our graduates have a high success rate on the RCPSC certification exams, and feel very well equipped for independent practice. The strengths of this program lie in its resident-centered approach, enthusiastic and committed teaching/research faculty, and a responsiveness to resident-raised concerns.
