Topic: Improving on a Blank Page – Establishing Medical Education in a New Quaternary Hospital Service
Dr. Sweetman talks about the numerous challenges in establishing medical education in new hospital at the time of commissioning: integrating new 'educational tribes' in a new institution and the cultural shift required. He gives a brief overview of integrating the spectrum of medical education including integration with undergraduate programs and how to achieve interprofessional/interdisciplinary teaching. As part of this he discusses how technology can assist in some aspects. He gives an overview of the challenges, unresolved issues and some of the early wins.
