NEUROPATHOLOGIST

The Department of Pathology at Dalhousie University in Halifax seeks to recruit a Neuropathologist for the Division of Anatomical Pathology.

The position is for a 1.0 FTE Neuropathologist to join another 1.0 FTE Neuropathologist already on staff.  Subspecialty expertise in the following areas is required: CNS tumors, degenerative brain disease, and neuromuscular disease. The candidate will be expected to participate in medical student education, resident training for DPM (AP), DCP (GP), Neurology and Neurosurgery residents, CNS frozen section duty, evening and weekend call. Expertise and/or training in molecular pathology, biobanking, a subspecialty of anatomical pathology or research is highly desirable, so as complement the pure neuropathology workload.  

The successful applicants will work in close collaboration with 28 staff in the Division of Anatomical Pathology at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre (QEII HSC), 10 staff in the Division of Neurosurgery, and 17 staff in the Division of Neurology.

The QEII HSC, part of the Central Zone of the Nova Scotia Health Authority, is a large tertiary health care institution affiliated with Dalhousie University.  It provides a broad range of medical care to patients in the Maritime Provinces and beyond.  Yearly, the Division handles around 200 Neurosurgical pathology cases, 25 Muscle and Nerve biopsies, and 200 Autopsy brains.

The position involves clinical service, as well as a commitment to medical education and research.  Certification in Neuropathology is a requirement, either through the RCPSC, the American Board of Pathology or an equivalent certifying body.  The successful candidate will be eligible for a faculty position at Dalhousie University commensurate with their experience and qualifications. 

Halifax is a growing, dynamic port city of nearly 500,000, with excellent schools, vibrant entertainment and restaurant scenes, and easy access to beaches, lakes and outdoor sporting activities. There are good airline connections to the US, Europe and elsewhere in Canada.
