Raising researchers

Are you a resident enrolled in one of the Department of Surgery’s master’s or PhD programs? If you’re looking for salary support, we may be able to provide up to $50,000 for the current school year. Why? We want to promote the training of surgeon-scientists within the Department of Surgery.

Eligibility

To apply, you must be a resident pursuing a master’s or PhD within the Department of Surgery. Priority will be given to:

In the fall of each academic year, there is a call inviting residents interested in persuing graduate studies to send a letter of intent.

How to apply

Step 1: Send a letter of intent to Elaine Marsh at elaine.marsh@dal.ca. This letter should:

  • identify your supervisor
  • provide a short description of the project you wish to persue
  • state which academic designation you will be persuing:
    • MSc/PhD in Medical Sciences
    • MSc/PhD in Clinical Epidemiology
    • MSc/PhD in Biomedical Engineering

Step 2: Meet with Dr. Greg Hirsch. The Surgery Office will arrange this meeting.

Step 3: Apply by filling out and complying with the Clinician Investigator Program application procedure. The application must be submitted to Elaine Marsh (elaine.marsh@dal.ca) in the Dalhousie Surgery Research Office in November.

Step 4: The Dalhousie Surgery Research Committee will review your application and offer constructive criticisms, along with award updates to your application.
