SEED Funding

Giving new researchers a boost

Need a little help getting your project off the ground? If you’re a new research investigator, you may be eligible for up to $50,000 in research  funds for the current academic year, in the form of SEED funding.

This award is designed to provide funding to new faculty members who are seeking their first research grant to establish their initial projects.  New clinical investigators are encouraged to meet with the Research office to help navigate the initial demands of starting up a research program. We  help with mentorship, Grant Writing - workshops, editing and refining, or foiling you into existing reserach projects through colloboration or utilizing shared resources. 

Eligibility

To apply for this award, you must have been appointed as a faculty member with the Department of Surgery within the last five years.  Priority is given to new faculty without previous appointment at any other instituion. 

How to apply

Step 2: Complete our Seed Funding Application Form [PDF - 226kB]

Step 3: Assemble an application package that includes:

  • your original application plus an electronic copy
  • a letter from your division chief that lays out research protected  time.
  • a support letter from your divisional research director detailing how your reserach advances the overall academic/research culture of the department and division.
