Dr. Idris Ali received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from Garyounis University, Benghazi, Libya. He completed his residency training in general surgery at the University of Saskatchewan and then pursued residency training in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at Dalhousie University. Subsequently, he also completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto before returning to Halifax to join our surgical team in 1991 and maintains an active academic role as a tutor with Dalhousie University along with his clinical practice in cardiac surgery. Dr. Ali is certified as a Fellow in General Surgery (1986) and Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (1988) through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He was also certified as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (1994).
