Dr. Roger Baskett graduated from the University of Toronto achieving honours with a Bachelor of Arts (1990) and then a Master of Arts in History (1992).  He went on to complete his Medical Degree from Dalhousie University (1997) and followed with residency training in Cardiac Surgery from (1997-2003).  Through research collaborations, he then completed a Master of Science in Epidemiology at Dalhousie University.  He pursued a one-year Fellowship in Ventricular Assist Device Implantation and Cardiac Transplantation at Cambridge Life Sciences Centre in the United Kingdom (2003-2004) before returning to join our team in Halifax.  Dr. Baskett is certified in the specialty of Cardiac Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.  He currently serves as the Director of our Cardiac Surgery Fellowship Program and as Clinical Service Chief for the Division of Cardiac Surgery. Throughout his career, he has dedicated time to both clinical research and teaching while maintaining a busy cardiac surgical practice with a focus in cardiac transplantation, ventricular assist devices for end-stage heart failure, and mitral valve repair.
