Michael Vician, MD, E.D.I.C.
Assistant Professor, Director CVICU
Michael is a native of Brno, Czechoslovakia. He studied at the Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovak Republic and the Justus Liebig University of Giessen, Germany. Michael obtained his MD from Justus Liebig University in 1997. After graduating he entered a residency-training program in Internal Medicine at the University Hospital in Giessen Germany, completing his specialty in intensive care and also his dissertation “Magna Cum Laude” at Justus Liebig University.
Dr. Vician is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Critical Care. He obtained his European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine (E.D.I.C.) in 2010.
Dr. Vician previously worked as a staff intensivist in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the University Hospital Giessen.
Dr. Vician was recruited to be The Director of CVICU at The Maritime Heart Centre in 2012. He brings an unrivaled depth of expertise in the ICU care of cardiac surgery patients. He has particular expertise in echocardiography, bedside sonography, management of renal replacement therapy, and minimally invasive tracheostomy. He has fostered a multi-disciplinary team approach to our ICU patients and with his skills and knowledge has made our CVICU a leading edge facility within Canada.
He is currently an Assistant Professor, Dalhousie University in the Department of Surgery, and Director of the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit in the Division of Cardiac Surgery.
