Date: February 12, 2015
Time: 5:30pm
Location: School of Social Work Boardroom, Level 3, Mona Campbell Building, 1459 LeMarchant Street, Halifax
Community presentation and discussion led by Dr. Jacquie Gahagan
If we change how we study LGBTQ health issues, could this change how health issues are typically managed? Traditionally, LGBTQ health has been studied by focusing on the risks and deficits associated with this population. But what happens if we focused instead on their strength and resilience?
A recent scoping review of this field has shown that innovative strengths-based theories and methods do exist that can help members of the LGBTQ population maintain and improve their own health and wellness. Join us on February 12th as we explore the need to adopt strengths-based approaches in Nova Scotia, and discuss how we can better understand and promote the health needs and outcomes of LGBTQ populations.
