Environmental racism can be defined as the disproportionate location of waste facilities and other environmentally hazardous activities near to communities of colour and the working poor, relative to other communities.
Dr. Ingrid Waldron, Assistant Professor, School of Nursing, Dalhousie University, will explore processes where race, socio-economic status and class get written into Nova Scotia's environmental policies. How do racial meanings become embedded in decision making about where waste facilities and other environmentally hazardous activities are located?
