Tumour and Other Sample Banking
Sample study
The QEII Lung Tumour Bank, which is now one of the largest human lung tumour banks in the country, was established by Dr. Zhaolin Xu and his colleagues in 2005. The bank is certified by the Canadian Tissue Repository Network (CTRNet).
The QEII / Dalhousie Biobank, a biobank within the Atlantic Canada Biobank Consortium (ACBC), is a CTRNet certified tumour bank. This biobank is a collection of multiple tumour banks within the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) which collects and stores a variety of Human Biological Specimens (HBS). Currently, the following tumour types are collected:
- Breast
- CNS
- Colorectal
- Gynecology
- Inherited Hematological Malignancies
- Myeloma
- Pancreas
- Prostate
Our department also houses other sample collections, including:
- collections of pituitary tumours (Dr. Orr and Dr. Bedard)
- ocular disorders (Dr. Orr and Dr. Bedard)
- pancreatic tumours (Dr. Giacomantonio)
