Tutor Skill Development Program
Learn to provide student support
Medical students need more than just the basics to fully understand the material that they’re learning. Tutor training sessions provide faculty with the skills they need to facilitate case based learning tutorials in Med 1, Med 2 and Clerkship (PIERS).
About Tutor Training
The training for new tutors consists of two parts – an online module and a face-to-face practice session. It is advised that new tutors participate in both sessions.
The orientation module, found online via Brightspace, should be reviewed before the practice session. It can be viewed in chunks and, in its entirety, takes 1-2 hours to fully complete. Tutors need their NetID and password to access the module.
The simulated tutorial practice session provides tutors with an opportunity to practice facilitating a small group with an expert tutor (Dr. Wendy Stewart). Medical students will be present to simulate an actual tutorial group using a sample case. To prepare for the session, tutors review/become familiar with the sample tutor guide, found on Brightspace.
