He completed his medical training at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1975 and then obtained his English Fellowship in General Surgery in London in 1979. He completed his orthopaedic training in at the University of Toronto and obtained his Canadian Fellowship in Orthopaedic surgery in 1981. He completed one year of fellowship training in allograft and reconstructive surgery with Prof. Allan Gross and then a year of Oncology training at the University of Florida. He was on faculty at MacMaster University for 4 years before moving to Halifax in 1987. He now is the Medical Director of the Tissue Bank at the QE II Health Sciences Centre, Chairs the Canadian Standards Committee on Tissues, and is active in the American Association of Tissue Banks. He provides specialized tertiary level care for Musculo-skeletal Oncology and Revision surgery for the maritime provinces. He is active in joint arthroplasty research and clinical trials involving new materials and approaches. He has an interest in Medico-legal issues and personal injury litigation. At present, he is President of the District Medical Staff Association.
