Making kids better

Our pediatric general radiology includes rotations in the following areas: plain radiographs (including in-patient studies from the pediatric and surgical wards and from the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, as well as outpatient and emergency room examinations), fluoroscopy (gastrointestinal/ genitourinary), ultrasound (including neuro-sonography), body CT, body MR imaging (abdomen and musculo-skeletal), neuroradiology (including CT and MR imaging), and nuclear medicine.

We provide clinical services associated with the Dalhousie Department of Diagnostic Radiology teaching programs all over Atlantic Canada:

  • The Halifax Infirmary Nuclear Medicine site
  • Victoria General Nuclear Medicine site
  • Victoria General PET/CT centre
  • IWK Nuclear Medicine site
  • Saint John Regional Hospital Nuclear Medicine site

We lead an integrated residency training program in Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology and accept one candidate into PGY1 Nuclear Medicine every second year. We are also the main clinical site for the training of Nuclear Medicine technologists through the Faculty of Health Professions. Medical Students are welcome through the department’s electives program.

The section serves all of Nova Scotia for radioistope therapy notably for Thyroid Cancer and Neuroendocrine tumors. The QEII is also the only provider of PET CT scanning for all of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland.

The section also provides basic nuclear medicine trainging to residents in the Dalhousie Diagnostic Radiology residency program.
