QEII Emergency Radiology
Comprehensive emergency services & education
The section of Emergency Radiology provides didactic and hands on training to Diagnostic Radiology residents during the PGY-2 to PGY-5 years as a core rotation. Members of the section also provide didactic teaching and tutoring to other learners visiting the department, including medical students and residents specializing in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine and Surgery.
As the main Trauma referral centre in Nova Scotia, our Emergency section is exposed to a wide variety of acute polytrauma cases in addition to many other emergent and non-emergent conditions in the chest, abdomen and pelvis. The Emergency radiology team works closely with our colleagues in Emergency and Trauma Medicine and is responsible for triaging and protocoling imaging requests from the ER as well as providing rapid interpretations of x-ray and CT examinations in order to help expedite patient management decisions.
In addition to clinical duties, members of the section participate in various multi-disciplinary rounds with our colleagues in Emergency Medicine and the Provincial Trauma Program.
As the newest imaging section in the Department of Radiology at Dalhousie, the Emergency section is currently in a state of evolution and will continue to adapt as new opportunities to improve patient care and resident education arise.
