Ozvegy Memorial Fund

Raising the research bar

The Dr. Frank Ozvegy Memorial Fund was created to acknowledge the major contribution Dr. Ozvegy made to the field of radiology. It provides support for research, teaching and training programs by paying for lectures, clinical and research fellowships and visits from external experts.

We were able to start this fund, thanks to a donation from the estate of Mrs. Magdelena Ozvegy. Dr. Ozvegy and his wife both stated that part of their estate was to be donated the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at Dalhousie.

Dr. Frank Ozvegy

Dr. Ozvegy and his wife, Magdalena, chose to live in western Nova Scotia when he accepted an appointment as the chief radiologist at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.

According to his colleagues, Ozvegy was instrumental in setting up the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, which he developed into a first class diagnostic imaging unit.

He initiated the first mammography service in Yarmouth, demonstrating early leadership in providing this service in the province. He was committed to high quality patient care and postgraduate education.

While practising in Yarmouth, he maintained a close relationship with Dalhousie, participated in its academic programs and was an active member of the Nova Scotia Association of Radiology.

Dr. Ozvegy passed away in 1988 and his wife, Magdalena, in 1993.
